As we age, our cell turnover decreases and this affects our skin texture and tone. Dermaplaning gently buffs the top layer of dead skin cells away, helping to reveal a brighter and smoother complexion leaving skin ultra-smooth and perfectly prepped for make-up, so it takes on an “airbrushed” finish.

Dead skin cells make your complexion look dull and contribute to clogged pores and spots. Dermaplaning clears the way so skin peels, facials, skin products and serums can get down into the skin where they need to be rather than sitting on the skin’s surface. 

The treatment also removes peach fuzz / vellus (fine) hair on the face and creates clear channels into the skin .

What happens during dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is done with a sterile  micro-blade held at a 45-degree angle and brushed along the surface of the skin to remove thin layers of excess skin cells and fine hairs. This is then  followed by a skin-soothing serum or mask. The treatment is painless and does not require any numbing prior to treatment.

Will my facial hair grow back darker?

Not at all. Hair on the face is a type known as vellus hair, rather than the dark, thick terminal hair that grows elsewhere.  Shaving does not in any way cause vellus hair follicles to transform into terminal hair follicles.

What happens after the treatment?

You will notice an  increased glow to the skin, evening of complexion, reduction of hyperpigmentation, improved skin tone and reduction of ‘peach fuzz’ vellus hair. 

Skin may be a little pink immediately after treatment but this normally subsides within an hour or so. Peach fuzz / vellus hairs do not come back thicker and stronger. It will grow back at exactly the same rate, thickness and texture as before.

Microneedling is an FDA-approved innovation in aesthetic medicine for the treatment of fine lines, acne scars and improvement of the skin’s overall appearance. 

During the microneedling procedure, a growth serum is applied to the skin and the device is then  glided across the treatment area. Diathermy is a safe and effective cosmetic treatment used to treat skin problems such as skin tags, spider veins, dilated and broken capillaries, red spots, milia, and sebaceous hyperplasia.

Diathermy involves the use of a high-frequency electrical current to produce intense heat to a specified treatment area. This heat is passed through a probe the size of an eyelash to destroy unhealthy or unwanted tissue such as skin tags and can be used to clot blood, which effectively reduces the appearance of broken capillaries. The treatment is precise, and only the targeted tissue is affected. Therefore, minimising the risk of scarring or post-inflammatory pigmentation.

IS DIATHERMY PAINFUL? 

The discomfort of the procedure depends on the treatment area and the type of lesion treated. The treatment process is relatively quick and is customised to meet your individual needs. Raised lesions such as skin tags may feel a slight stinging sensation. In contrast, flat lesions such as broken capillaries or sensitive areas around the nostrils can feel warm and slightly uncomfortable.  

However, most people can tolerate the discomfort reasonably well, and in cases of severe sensitivity, we recommend you apply a topical numbing cream before your treatment.

WHAT TO EXPECT POST-TREATMENT

Following a diathermy treatment, most lesions will immediately appear white or grey, with the surrounding skin appearing pink. In the next few days after treatment, lesions can darken or appear to become dry or scab-like. This skin should not be picked, scrubbed, or irritated. Following the aftercare instructions will ensure the treated area will heal and clear blemishes within 7 - 10 days.
